Cover of the Night: Carpenter Brut Covering Michael Sembello’s Maniac

The Flashdance original motion picture soundtrack was released in 1983 and it was a smash hit. The soundtrack, compiled by disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder, went on to sell over 20 millions copies worldwide and took home the Grammy for Best Soundtrack in 1984. The success of the collection was was greatly due to two #1 Billboard singles…the Moroder penned Flashdance…What a Feeling and the subject of tonight’s cover, Michael Sembello’s Maniac.

Our covering artist should need little introduction. Carpenter Brut’s fusion of the 1980’s, horror films, metal, and electronic music has made him a front runner in synthwave. The cover is made even more fun due to its live setting. We get the full light and video show, really immersing the listener into a great take on an early 80’s classic. Enjoy!
