When their self titled album hit in 1988, Information Society were an instant success. The record was filled with catchy hooks and obvious radio singles like What’s On Your Mind (Pure Energy) and Walking Away, but its true strength was hidden in how experimental the whole album feels. They were using loops and samples that would have felt right at home on a hip hop album but they bent them to their electronic will. It gave the album a fresh feel and it was really unlike what other traditional electronic acts were releasing. As the album closes in on a 30 year old birthday, Information Society deserve a lot of credit for what they pulled off. The took a lot of risks and were fortunate to have so many people enjoy it. It’s a stone cold synth driven classic.
