A Post DNA Lounge Interview With FacexHugger

Last week saw FacexHugger playing in one of the biggest shows at one of the hottest venues on the West Coast. His performance alongside Syntax and Perturbator at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco did two very big things. First, it showed everyone what we already knew…that FacexHugger can hang with anyone, including the biggest of the big boys. Second it has exposed more and more people to his music, which is always the ultimate goal. What better way to capitalize off of that (as big FacexHugger fans ourselves here at Echosynthetic) than to talk to him about the show!

It’s been a little while since we last had you on Echosynthetic! How have you been?

I’ve been good, Just enjoying this crazy ride I’m on!

You’ve had a very busy year so far, which has included expanding into live performances. What was the process like transitioning your songs to be performed on stage?

It’s been pretty smooth actually. My live show consists of all hardware, so when you hear me live you’ll be hearing alternate versions of my songs. I don’t have any intentions of recording these versions of the songs so you’ll only be able to hear them when you see me live.

You just recently played with Perturbator and Syntax at the DNA Lounge. How do you put into words what that experience was like?

It was a blast!  DNA Lounge is definitely a great venue for synth heavy music. Getting to meet Perturbator was awesome, he is a very down to earth person and super easy to talk to. Watching him do sound check was pretty rad. His whole crew have a very smooth running ship and it’s great to see how hard they work to put on a killer show. I also got to have dinner with Syntax and that was pretty surreal, he is another super down to earth person. Seeing him play live was an experience you can really see and feel how much he loves music. This show is going to be something I remember for the rest of my life. I have to give special thanks to the crowd. I wasn’t expecting the reaction I got from them. I met a lot of cool people and I can’t wait to play in San Francisco again.

Who are some other acts you’ve played with recently?

The list is super short of acts I’ve played with, but I do have some cool gigs coming up. There’s only 2 weeks left in September but before it’s done I’m going to share the stage with Syntax (again), Street Cleaner, The Encounter, Glitbiter, Rated-R, Elevate the Sky and Killer Couture. Lots of cool acts that I can’t wait to hang out with.

We’re thrilled to have you as part of the line-up for Echosynthetic Fest! Who are you looking forward to meeting most?

Everyone!!! There is so many people I’m looking forward to meeting that day. November can’t come soon enough! Echosynthetic Fest has a great line up and I am just really happy to be a part of it!

Do you any new musical projects you can tell us about?

I do actually!  This is the best place to announce this. I am working on a release I’m trying to get done before the end of the year and it’s shaping up to be huge. It’s going to have collaborations with Skeleton Beach, Gregorio Franco, Future Holotape, Glitbiter and…… the legend himself Tim Capello!!! It’s not quite done yet and I’m trying to see if I can add a few more collaborations in it. But be on the lookout for some new sounds before the year is up.

What has been your favorite release of the summer?

The new Perturbator release hands down.

Any parting words before we go?

Thanks to everyone for the support especially all the cool twitter people. I also want to thank my family that help me put on my shows and help with everything. My sister-in-law Aria who has been supporting my music from day one and worked my march booth at DNA Lounge so my wife Aleks, and founder of NEO-LA could live stream, take photos, and help me tear down. I have a ton of support and there are so many people to thank for everything, but I suck at words so thanks everyone, you guys are the best!
