It’s been far too long, but Cesium_137 are releasing their latest full length, Rise to Conquer, on January 19th on Metropolis Records. It’s been six years since Science and Sound hit shelves so I’m sure you’re all as excited as I am. I’ve had the album on repeat all week as I prepared to write this article and I just can’t get enough of it. You don’t realize how much you love a band sometimes until they’ve been away for a while. Listening to Rise to Conquer has been like finding a favorite sweatshirt tucked in the back of the closet. It’s equal parts excitement, comfort, and familiarity.
My relationship with Cesium_137 started very early in their career. In the early 2000’s I was working at a mom and pop record store and I was obesssesed with Metropolis Records. They had a minimum number of items you had to order at that time so I would spend my paycheck buying new EBM, Industrial, and Synthpop cds. It was through one of these blind orders that I discovered and fell in love with the music of Cesium_137, and I’ve been a fan ever since!
As soon as Rise to Conquer begins you’re immediately aware that you’re not listening to your run of the mill synth based pop. On the contrary, Cesium_137 blend their EBM and futurepop style into something that is equal parts thought provoking and danceworthy as well. It’s a difficult balance but these tracks fuse real emotion with hooks that just don’t quit. It’s been six long years since Cesium_137 dropped a full length record, but Rise to Conquer proves to be well worth the wait. It’s stacked with hit after potential hit, immensely catchy from start to finish, and worthy of every second of your attention.
You can find Rise to Conquer at your favorite digital music outlet on January 19th. I typically use Bandcamp because I like their app and I feel like the artists get a bigger cut of the money you’re spending. Want a physical copy? Metropolis has the hookup!
